BRAZEN TV

Friday, April 17th, 2009

“Katie, you’re going to be on TV.”

The first thing that would usually spring to mind after hearing these words (quickly and in a panicked fashion) is what the hell am I going to wear?

Fortunately for me, I didn’t have a single outfit decision to make before I appeared on Channel M’s Entertainment News. As my very special outfit was the reason for my appearance!

I was asked to wear a dress for my client, Vileda, which was made to launch its Naturals range of products. The dress, a wonderful, colourful creation from young Manchester designer, Sarah Gallagher, consists entirely of Vileda cloths and scourers! The full outfit even has its own pair of matching rubber gloves– mop tassle-trimmed, of course.

I’d already worn it for the big London Naturals launch at the Charlotte Street Hotel but this time around things would be a little different as I was being filmed in Cathedral Gardens!

Following presenter Steph Elmore’s interview with our designer, I twirled my self around in front of the camera under little direction – the cameraman said: “Have you ever watched America’s Next Top Model? Well, just do that” – which obviously didn’t help me at all as I stumbled around in my patent leather, neon orange (to add that Brazen touch) shoes.

It was a little chilly, but I was sure the finished piece would be worth it and was actually enjoying myself so there was no chance of any Naomi Campbell-esque strops.

Naturally, my proud mum watched and sent me a text afterwards, which read: “I thought you looked wonderful– but then I am your Mum.” – I wasn’t quite sure what to make of that…

HAPPY LOVE LICORICE DAY 2009!

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Many foods are loved and loathed with equal passion.

Are you one of the ones who will stand up and shout about how much you love sprouts from the rooftops or do you hate tuna so much that just the smell turns your stomach?

One such man is Mr Angry, who tried Nando’s Extra Extra Hot Sauce and has not stopped ranting and raving ever since!

Another food that especially provokes the “Marmite effect” is licorice. So strongly divided is the UK population that Panda decided to name the 16 April as Love Licorice Day and encourage everyone to have another go and see what they think of licorice.

Loved by pandas especially and rabbits, although they are not allowed to eat it as they can’t digest it. Celebrities who can’t get enough of the black stuff include Brad Pitt, Lindsay Lohan and Anne Hathaway and it is regularly relied on in films to help with special effects.

Panda licorice is fat free and has no added “nasties” which makes it perfect for those on a diet craving a sweet snack.

So go on, try something you always thought you didn’t like – how many people hated tomatoes when a kid and now eat them all the time??

In Bed With Lisa Snowdon…

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

At the risk of sounding like I never get out of bed, I spent this week in bed with the lovely (and leggy!) Lisa Snowdon. And as much as I’d like to say it was just two friends ‘hanging out’, I was actually working.

We chose Lisa Snowdon as the face of Silentnight’s NEW ‘Miracoil Body Beautiful Beds’ – beds that are so high-tech they keep your body fully hydrated and your spine perfectly aligned while you sleep, so you wake up looking just like Lisa (OK well maybe not exactly, but they do help prevent bags under the eyes and sallow-looking skin).

I have to say, I was a little dubious about meeting her. After all she’s a top model with legs as long as me, a radio presenter, a judge on Britain’s Next Top Model and probably most notoriously famed for bedding the original Hollywood heartthrob, George Clooney. The only thing I took comfort in was the fact that she’s a northern lass from Stockport (or so Sally our media evaluator told me!) The look of confusion that swept over her face was shortly followed by a look of embarrassment on mine (thanks Sal!) – thankfully, Lisa (from Herts) thought it was hilarious…

Arriving (on time) wearing jeans and a t-shirt, she oozed sex appeal without being unattainable. This was set to be the start of a great day. Out of hair & make-up and straight into a crisp-white sheet for shooting – to think some people fork out fortunes on fashion and here Lisa is, wrapped in just a bed sheet looking more glamorous than some of the glitterati on the red carpet!

But not only was she beautiful, she was a pleasure to work with. All credit to her, despite being out at an awards ceremony the night before and up at the crack of dawn for her breakfast show, she remained professional, enthusiastic and friendly right up to 6pm when the shoot wrapped.

And she proved her weight in gold if you look at the subsequent coverage (we stormed the nationals including The Sun, Daily Mail, Sunday Mirror, Daily Star, OK! Sky News).

So, one question… bet your kicking yourself now aren’t you, Mr Clooney?!

S-NOW ATTITUDE

Monday, April 6th, 2009

For most of us, skiing is all about that one precious week in the snow, praying for powder and caning it on the slopes for seven days straight.

But for a fast-growing bunch of youths in Europe skiing is about their lifestyles, their passion and getting some air. This weekend in Val Thorens, teenagers from all over Europe came together to compete in The North Face Ski Challenge. A competition that encourages and judges free-riding and park skills, competitors also have the opportunity to impress The North Face and win the company’s sponsorship for a year.

With so much at stake it is no wonder that these messy haired, goggle tanned kids wore serious expressions as they threw themselves over rails and kickers, pulling off 360s with incredible ease.  It was inspiring to watch these brightly clad youths flying around the park. Their ski skills were impressive and my black slope slalom suddenly seemed decidedly tame.

The drawback was the weather, a thick fog descended on the park midway through the competition, rendering the big kicker useless. But still the competitors were hungry for air time and many wouldn’t give up until they absolutely had to. Their commitment was unshakeable. If only kids had the same attitude to everything they undertook… and adults too for that matter.

Although next year, I will probably still only get my 7 days in the snow, this time I will throw myself into it with the passion and enthusiasm of the kids I watched this weekend. And if you look at a goggle tan long enough it definitely becomes more attractive.

JUST CALL ME KIM….OR AGGIE

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

I have to be honest, I never thought I would see the day – me, a cleaning guru?

Well anyone who knows me (or the state of my bedroom) would not be wrong in guessing that in recent years, cleaning has not been high on my agenda.

Oh how times have changed – I am now inspired!

With my two new clients, Vileda and Dr. Beckmann, I get home after a hard day’s work and assess how to unleash a load of fab cleaning products onto my flat… no I really I do.

It all started with Vileda. We were appointed by the cleaning giants in November last year and kicked off with a press launch in London. It was the most successful press event in my career and one of the most successful in Brazen history.

A fabulous 41 women’s and homes journalists attended a three-hour drop in event and numerous pieces of wonderful product coverage resulted – a great start!

Then this year brought Dr. Beckmann, the stain removal experts. To launch its brand makeover, new products and of course, Brazen, a launch was again held with a ‘Love your clothes’ theme.

It was brilliantly attended by 37 journalists – who would have thought a demo on removing foundation stains from your favourite top would be sexy? Well evidently, it is!

Anyway, must go, I’m sure I can hear Nina calling me to give the boardroom a once over…
